Emme Porter: September 17th just outside of Washington, DC at the Capitol Polo grounds for the 2011 Green cup of Polo. This is the 5th annual event, it’s a wonderful event, it mixes fashion, couture, and polo all to benefit a great cause, all for the environment.
Emme Porter: I’m here with Robert Do the President of the Capitol Polo Club. this is the 5th Green Cup Polo event. Robert is a coneseour, a guru, of green energy and he is going to tell me a little today. Tell me about the Green Cup of Polo Event what makes this event special and unique?
Robert Do: Well the Green Cup basically, for us who have played like John in many Gold cup and Silver cup around the world we felt that using polo as a platform in order to raise awareness about living green, being sustainable, and conserving our natural resources. So we believe that not only protecting our children today but protecting the resources that we can give our children in the future. Today we are using too much energy, we are exploiting fossil fuels and we are creating climate change. We need to show people how to conserve, how to live sustainable, how to protect our environment so that our children that come in the next generation would have all the resources that we have today.
Emme Porter: It really is a wonderful event and as you said a lot of what you do today benefits the children. John Walsh here from America’s Most Wanted, can you tell me a little about how it all ties together?
John Walsh: Robert is the guy the that got me here, Marcos Bignoli the club manager is a friend of mine and used to live in the town in Florida that I live in right now and it is all for the right reasons as Robert so articulately put it. This is the legacy that we leave our children so we have to make sure this planet is better or at least as what it is now. So they put this together today, they want to make a statement that we can have fun, we can live in this world, and leave a green world to our children. I have children here today and it’s a good message for them and these guys have done all the hard work. They put the polo world together, this is going to be a good game, a fun game today. We’re making a statement here, we can live in a green world, absolutely and I’m honored to be here with Robert and Marcos Bignoli. Lots of friends of mine are here today, we’re making a statement we’re playing polo for the kids.
Emme Porter: Absolutely, well thank you so much.
Emme Porter: This is Ashley Boalch she is Miss District of Columbia and this is the second time I’ve seen you, Ashley. I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley just the other night at the Eco Couture Fashion Show for the Green Cup Polo, the gala that was in Georgetown. Ashley was one of the beautiful models that was there, Ashley what brings you to the Green Cup of Polo today?
Ashley Boalch: I’m very excited to be here today. I love the Capitol Polo Club and I really support the fact that they are putting on an event that is benefits many charities. I think that what the Capitol Polo Club does that is so different and unique is that they really care about the community and they really care about giving back. That is why I’m here today, Miss DC 2011 as well as with Jen Corey, Miss DC 2009. Our organization, the Miss American Organization, the DC chapter is very involved with the Capitol Polo Club. So anytime we can come out here and lend our support we are very happy to do so.
Emme Porter: So the gala that you were at last night I understand you were modeling some eco couture fashion, can tell us a little about that?
Ashley Boalch: I was wearing one of the most beautiful outfits that I have ever worn, it was very tropical, reminded me of a Brazilian outfit. It was made out of pineapple and hemp, it was by eco couture designer Oliver Tolentino, based out of LA. Beautiful outfit, it was this florescent orange and I was actually doing the samba while I was walking down because I felt so inspired by the outfit, it was great, we had a great time!
Emme Porter: Fantastic and are you going to be playing in the polo match today?
Ashley Boalch: I wish I were, I actually ride horses. I was a competitive barrel racer in rodeos growing up so I do have some experience handling the reins. But I was talking to Robert Do, the President about how I don’t know how to handle that mallet so that is something that we are going to be working on. Maybe in the future I might become a polo player, who knows!
Emme Porter: I think next year I might see you out there!
Ashley Boalch: I wouldn’t count against it, it’s bound to happen!
Emme Porter: Thank you so much for you time.
John Walsh: This is a good friend of mine Marcos Bignoli and he is the manager of the Capitol Polo Club, he runs this beautiful club. He is a high gold pro from Argentina that I have known for years and played with him and he has put this together today. He put this beautiful event together and I’m going to play against him, usually I play with him but today I’m going to play against him. It’s an honor to call him a friend, he is a great family man, a great polo player and he has put this beautiful club and this event together today.
Emme Porter: So Marcos can you tell us a little bit about the Capitol Polo Club, you are the director so I’m sure you know a lot.
Marcos Bignoli: First of all I want to thank John for his kind worlds. We are good friends for many years and it’s an honor to have you here and to help us out with you presence. Capitol Polo Club is an active polo club part of the United States Polo Association. I came here four years ago, Robert Do my good friend is the President of the club. He asked me to come we had twelve members when I arrived today we have 56 members, we are the fastest growing club in the US. We have an academy with thirty six students. The great advantage that we have is we are close to Washington, DC. We have people from 25 different countries playing here, today an Irishman. You see some of our flags, we are very proud of our club and we are growing. This is an event for charity to raise awareness of the environment and we do about three or four of these a year. We want to do more to help a lot of charities. Our main target is renewable energy, but mostly children, we help schools in Argentina and we take advantage of a lot of… “Take Advantage” quote… of a lot of the non profits of Washington, DC and really try to target the money to help the unfortunate children of the world.
Emme Porter: It’s a great thing you guys are doing here today I’m glad we could come out. It looks like they are getting started right now with one of the polo matches.
Emme Porter: We’re concluding our time here today at the 5th annual Green Cup of Polo event. A fantastic day we got to share our time with some wonderful people and watch some great polo, all for a great cause.
